My name is Julia. I was born in Warsaw and lived in Amsterdam before coming to Switzerland. I've been living idyllically in the countryside outside of Zurich for almost a year now and enjoy the train ride to Zurich every morning. The district 8 is a small, charming quarter that despite its manageable size has a lot to offer – the lake, many parks, little farm Wynegg with a fantastic view and of course the many little boutiques, restaurants and cafes. I still have a lot that I need to discover in the neighbourhood.
Meeting new people opens the horizon
There is something wonderful about working in a place like Monocle, that is the main meeting point not only for residents. My job at the café gives me the possibility to get in contact with interesting people – creatives, photographers, filmmakers, writers, etc. and expats from all over the world who tell their stories and why they have found their new home in Seefeld.
When the weather is nice I love getting on my bike and discovering the neighborhood. I often stop at the botanical garden, the Wynegg farm and of course the Badi Utoquai. The locals here are very open. And if one day I meet a fairy godmother, I will ask her for a small, lovely apartment in Seefeld.

Mein Name ist Julia. Ich wurde in Warschau geboren und habe in Amsterdam gelebt, bevor ich in die Schweiz kam. Seit fast einem Jahr wohne ich idyllisch im Grünen ausserhalb von Zürich. Jeden Morgen geniesse ich die Zugfahrt in die Stadt. Der Kreis 8 ist ein charmantes Viertel, das trotz seiner überschaubaren Grösse viel zu bieten hat – den See, zahlreiche Parks, den Bauernhof Wynegg mit seiner fantastischen Aussicht und natürlich diverse kleine Boutiquen, feine Restaurants und Cafés. Ich werde in der Nachbarschaft sicher noch zahlreiche Plätze entdecken.
Es ist toll, in einem Lokal wie dem Monocle zu arbeiten, das nicht nur für die Zürcher der Meeting Point ist. Durch meinen Job im Café habe ich die Möglichkeit, mit interessanten Menschen in Kontakt zu kommen – Kreativen, Fotografen, Filmemachern, Schriftstellern etc. und natürlich mit Expats aus aller Welt, die ihre Geschichten erzählen und warum sie hier ein neues Zuhause gefunden haben.
Bei schönem Wetter schwinge ich mich aufs Velo und erkunde die Gegend. Ich mache gern Halt im Botanischen Garten, beim Bauernhof Wynegg und bleibe dann den ganzen Nachmittag lang in der Badi Utoquai. Die «Seefelder» sind sehr freundlich und offen. Und wenn ich eines Tages eine gute Fee treffe, werde ich sie um eine kleine, hübsche Wohnung im Kreis 8 bitten.
